Vice Minister Niu Dun meets Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries

Vice Minister Niu Dun met with the visiting Danish Minister Karen Hækkerup for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries (FVM) in Beijing on Nov.11th, 2013. The two sides exchanged views on further promoting China-Denmark cooperation in agriculture.
Niu noted that China and Denmark enjoy strong complementarity and share common ground in agricultural sector. "Over recent years, the two sides have developed a closer partnership and witnessed straight increase in agri-trade", Niu said. "And both sides will definitely benefit from stronger bilateral cooperation in agricultural field."To this end, Niu put forward a four-point proposal :
First, to enhance cooperation in animal husbandry, including holding the next Sino-Danish Roundtable Conference on Pig Industry in 2014, and establishing a joint demonstration pig farm in China;
Second, to conduct effective communication on standard setting and good practices of organic agriculture;
Third, to expand biomass energy collaboration including developing small hydro power, wind power and solar power in rural areas;
Fourth, to intensify joint efforts in improving the legal framework, control & prevention system as well as information sharing mechanism in veterinary service sector.
Minister Karen Hækkerup fully agreed with Niu, and expressed her willingness to beef up communication and cooperation with China in animal husbandry, organic farming, biomass energy, veterinary service, etc., in order to fuel the robust development of agriculture in both countries.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the Agreement on the Follow-ups of Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Agriculture of the People''s Republic of China and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Kingdom of Denmark on Deepening Cooperation in Agriculture, and the Memorandum of Understanding between Veterinary Bureau of Ministry of Agriculture of the People''s Republic of China and Veterinary and Food Administration of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Kingdom of Denmark on Veterinary Health Cooperation.
